Tennis Coach Intern 2022

The Boys’ College is inviting applications for a Tennis Coach Intern position which will be available from 05 September 2022. Candidates should be passionate about sport, possess a growth mindset and a vision of developing students with excellent character. Responsibilities:

Head of Strength and Conditioning

Jeppe High School for Boys invites applications from suitably qualified individuals for the Head of Strength and Conditioning position, commencing from September 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter. This vacancy presents an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, dynamic, professionally qualified and skilled individual to implement and manage the strength and conditioning needs at Jeppe High School for Boys. The successful candidate will assist the Director of Sport, work alongside the Sport MICs and play a leading role in coordinating the physical development of learners, both from a high performance and mass participation point of view.

Requirements for the position:

  • A suitable qualification in strength and conditioning, exercise science or human performance.
  • Experience in a similar role, ideally working with teams and with a demonstrated ability to coach and mentor young people. 
  • Track record of implementing and running a strength and conditioning programme and system including management of the gym and high-performance facilities. 
  • Display excellent interpersonal, organisation and administrative skills and an ability to work both independently and within a team. 
  • Have excellent communication skills as well as a strong command of both spoken and written English. Be proficient in Google and Microsoft IT skills. 
  • An interest in education and willingness to form part of a busy holistic boys’ school and where necessary form part of the school’s academic and pastoral offering. A willingness to occasionally work longer hours and a desire to be involved in the broader spectrum of school life.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Assisting the Director of Sport and MICs by drafting and implementing a performance plan and system for each school sport from both a high performance and mass participation point of view. 
  • Assisting coaches to implement strength and conditioning activities both on the field and in the gym. 
  • Overseeing part-time strength and conditioning coaches. 
  • Management of the high-performance facilities and equipment, including management of the gym and programmes for both high-performance and mass participation purposes.
  • Direct, hands-on involvement, oversight and working with certain teams (e.g. 1st XV rugby team) where required.
  • Managing the injury protocols and rehabilitation system of the school including hospital and specialist follow-up management. Work closely with the school physiotherapist, the first-aid team and our medical administrator.
  • Keeping abreast of the current trends in strength and conditioning in order to achieve chief performance.

Rondebosch Boys’ High School requires the services of a dynamic Educational Psychologist to join our Counselling Department on a part-time basis (half day).

The Rondebosch Boys’ Counselling Department is a resource available to the learners, parents and staff to assist with difficulties linked to their emotional, social, psychological and intellectual well-being. The goal of the department is to help the person deal with and overcome issues that are impacting on their school life. At present the Department consists of: A School Counsellor, The Pastoral Deputy Headmaster and a professional counselling Psychologist. Our vision is to grow the school’s counselling capacity and in time develop a physical structure that houses a wellness centre where all counselling and psychological services are housed.

Requirements:

The successful applicant should be able to:

  • provide counselling to teenager boys in a manner that supports their emotional and psychological health as it impacts on their school life. Common examples are: anxiety and depression, social/self-esteem/identity challenges, family difficulties and trauma.
  • present talks to teenagers/parents/staff on relevant mental health topics.
  • network effectively with colleagues and develop resources for external referrals.

In addition to your core counselling function, you would at times be expected to:

  • Offer input within school system that furthers psychological thinking
  • Conduct training in executive functioning e.g. helping with improving organisational skills, prioritising etc.
  • Work collaboratively with key staff and teachers, directing processes which aim to ensure early identification of learning barriers, and the implementing of effective interventions.
  • Conduct psycho-educational assessments.
  • Provide career and subject-choice guidance.

The successful applicant should have:

  • An understanding of the education environment and of the current societal pressures faced by teenagers
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organisational, administrative and interpersonal skills
  • Current registration with the HPCSA as a Psychologist or Counsellor, and compliance with CPD requirements
  • Police Clearance certificate (as per Child Protection Act)
  • The ability to converse in at least two of the Western Cape’s official languages; fluency in isiXhosa will be highly advantageous.
