AFRIKAANS FIRST ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE / COMMERCE (BUSINESS STUDIES and ECONOMIC AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES) FIXED TERM CONTRACT, FULL OR PART-TIME POSITION DEPENDING ON TEACHING SUBJECT COMBINATION (JULY - NOVEMBER 2021)

General description of the position:

1. To assume the position, the applicants will be required to teach a combination of  the following subjects.
   • AFRIKAANS FIRST ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE (Grades 8 - 10)
   • BUSINESS STUDIES (Grades 10)
   • ECONOMIC AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES – EMS (Grades 8 - 9)
2. To perform the duties of a “home class” teacher, with attendance/registration and pastoral care responsibilities.
3. Extra-mural involvement related to the relevant teaching subject.
4. To attend subject-specific workshops/training and to report back to members of the Department.
5. To perform various school duties, including attending after hours meetings, workshops, functions and other school-related duties.

Applicants would need the following personal attributes: 

• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• A friendly, dynamic, creative and self-driven personality.
• The ability to take a leadership role and to show initiative in work-related situations but also be able to work successfully as part of a team.
• An attitude of life-long learning with regards to teaching methodologies and the acquisition of knowledge related to the subject.

Necessary qualifications and skills would include: 

• A relevant Bachelor’s degree and teaching qualification would be the minimum requirements.
• The candidate must be qualified to teach EMS (Grade 8 & 9) as well as Afrikaans and/or Business Studies to Grade 10 level.
• A minimum of 3 years teaching experience of the above-mentioned subjects to Grade 12 level would be a requirement.
• A valid and up to date SACE registration and Police clearance certificate.
• To be highly articulate, confident and competent in the delivery of subject content and skills.
• Good computer skills with regards to lesson preparation, presentation and general school administration.
• Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to develop positive relationships with the learners.

The salary package will be based on qualifications and previous teaching experience.

Jeppe High School for Boys

Jeppe High School for Boys is Johannesburg's oldest public school having been established in 1890 in Fairview, Johannesburg. As noted in the book Historic Schools of South Africa "perhaps more than any other Johannesburg school, it reflects the history and the changing character of the city and has always been a melting pot for children of diverse socioeconomic, language and cultural backgrounds".

Recognised as one of South Africa's Op 20 boys' schools, the defining characteristics of the men it produces often centre on the principles of loyalty, honour, and friendship. Jeppe's ability to shape the character of boys into men is its greatest success.

Jeppe High School for Boys has an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced teacher in the following academic role. The starting date of the appointment may vary, subject to the availability of the preferred candidate but would ideally be for the start of the second academic term (as per the Department of Basic Education calendar). Where possible, the candidate may be appointed to a Gauteng Department of Education position.

Senior Business Studies Teacher

Requirements for the position: 

• The successful candidate must have at least three to five years of teaching experience and should be innovative, technologically able and willing to play a full and significant role in their department, potentially even as Head of Department. 
•  Applicants would ideally have experience teaching to Grade 12 level as a Business Studies educator. 
• Newly qualified teachers will not be considered for the position currently being advertised. 
• The successful candidate will be passionate about their subject and teaching as a profession. 
• Jeppe High School for Boys is committed to employing outstanding classroom educators who are also prepared, and are expected, to contribute significantly to the extra-mural and pastoral life of the school. 
• All applicants must be SACE registered and may be required to provide evidence of this before any interview takes place. 
• Experience within a similar school would be an advantage but is not essential if other criteria are met.
