EDUCATION PSYCHOLOGIST MATERNITY CONTRACT POSITION
± 26 August 2021 – 1 March 2022 (Dates to be confirmed)

JOB PURPOSE:
To render psychological counseling and support within a special school/resource center environment, including full-service and inclusive schools, within an inclusive education and whole school development framework, in conjunction with the School-Based Support Team(SBSTs). To assist school management to make the school efficient and effective as a teaching and learning institution.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Masters-level degree in Psychology
  • registration as a PSYCHOLOGIST (Educational, Clinical or Counselling) with the Professional Board for Psychology of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) (must provide proof of current registration)
  • recognized post-graduate qualification [REQV 14] which must include appropriate training as an educator
  • registration as an EDUCATOR with the South African Council for Educators (SACE) (must provide proof of registration)
  • at least 1 or 2 years relevant psycho-educational and/or psycho-social experience
  • a certified copy of a valid drivers’ license
  • proficiency in English and at least 1 other official language of the Western Cape.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: 

  • provision of psychological support to learners as a member of a trans-disciplinary team
  • promote and support the implementation of inclusive education policy and guideline documents
  • knowledge and experience in the early identification, assessment and support of learners experiencing barriers to learning
  • knowledge of the Screening, Identification, Assessment and Support (SIAS) policy
  • assist within the School-Based Support Team (SBST) to develop and monitor Individual Support Plans (ISP) for learners experiencing barriers to learning
  • provision of psycho-educational and psycho-social support to learners, educators and parents
  • capacity-building of educators and parents within the inclusive education framework
  • administration of psychological and educational assessments
  • provision of short-term psycho-therapeutic support for learners
  • assist the school with the development of networks for support
  • adhere to the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) ethical code for psychology, scope of practice and other guideline documents
  • undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and professional supervision as a personal responsibility
  • maintain a record of all psychological and educational interventions
  • draft professional psycho-educational and psycho-social reports
  • maintain a sound administrative system ensuring confidentiality of records

APEX PRIMARY SCHOOL

Apex Primary School is a new no-fee dual medium public primary school which opened its doors in January 2020. The school currently accommodates grade 1-5 learners across four classes per grade and will grow a grade each year until it reaches grade 7 in 2023. The school has partnered with Acorn Education (www.acorneducation.org.za) as part of the Collaboration Schools Pilot Programme - a public private partnership programme in the Western Cape.

SEEKING GRADE 3 EDUCATOR
CONTRACT POST 26 JULY 2021 – 30 NOVEMBER 2021

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum requirement is a REQV14 qualification (matric + four years’ qualification)
  • At least 3 to 5 years relevant experience
  • Must be qualified and trained in the Foundation Phase
  • Certification through the South African Council of Educators (SACE)-proof of registration required
