Apex Primary School is a new no-fee dual medium public primary school which opened its doors in January 2020. The school currently accommodates grade 1-5 learners across four classes per grade and will grow a grade each year until it reaches grade 7 in 2023. The school has partnered with Acorn Education ( as part of the Collaboration Schools Pilot Programme - a public private partnership programme in the Western Cape.

  • English Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT) Grade 3 Educator


  • Minimum requirement is a REQV14 qualification (matric + four years’ qualification)
  • At least 3 to 5 years relevant experience
  • Must be qualified and trained in the Foundation Phase
  • Certification through the South African Council of Educators (SACE)-proof of registration required

Job Overview
The Foundation Phase Instructional Coach will be responsible for coaching and mentoring Foundation Phase teachers in our two primary schools located in Eerste River. Instructional coaches work one-on-one with teachers to provide guidance, training, and other resources as needed. Together, they focus on practical strategies for engaging scholars and increasing learning outcomes through improved teaching.

Key responsibilities

  • Observe and provide developmental feedback to a portfolio of teachers to outperform Quintile 5 averages on the Systemic Exams
  • Design and deliver teacher professional development sessions to meet the most pressing needs of teachers and schools
  • Develop and/or improve systems that ensure effective lesson, term, and year planning
  • Analyse scholar academic data to effectively implement highly responsive instruction to bring 100% of scholars to mastery of 100% of lesson objectives
  • Embed a culture of growth, learning, and support in the teachers at our schools

Necessary qualification criteria

  • Qualified Primary School teacher (must be SACE registered)
  • Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in the Foundation Phase
  • Departmental Head or Grade Head experience would be beneficial
  • Must be a South African national or possess a permanent resident permit
  • Must be fluent in both English and Afrikaans

Essential experience

  • Experience teaching scholars of various abilities and ensuring every scholar grows
  • Experience effectively teaching scholars in classrooms of more than 30 scholars per class
  • Experience of raising attainment in a challenging classroom environment
  • Own transport is essential
