St Stithians College is a proudly South African school, embracing diversity and offering a distinctive educational experience. Founded as a Methodist Church School, our Christian spirituality is central to our identity. Our College consists of primary and secondary boys' and girls' schools, together with a co-educational junior primary school. We are an independent, non-profit institution located on an expansive green campus in Sandton, Johannesburg. In addition, St Stithians incorporates Kamoka Bush School near Modimolle, and the Thandulwazi Maths & Science Academy on our Campus. GIRLS' PREPARATORY

Our primary intention is to educate and empower girls, raising them in ways that are responsive to the challenges unique to women. We aim to be the leaders in girls' education, with the focus on nurturing individual skills and dispositions, equipping girls to engage confidently and with a sense of purpose. Our girls work within a values-based framework in order to make decisions with good intent. The South African context is diverse and dynamic. We raise girls to embrace their heritage and collaborate locally to make a significant contribution nationally and internationally.

Deputy Head - Girls' Education AND Deputy Head - Academics

In appointing a full time Academic Innovation & Research Director, the Girls' Preparatory has an exciting opportunity to re-design its executive. We are therefore looking for a Deputy Head: Girls' Education whose main responsibility will be to focus on the holistic and future-focused development of the girl child. Social-emotional well being, pastoral care and discipline will form part of this portfolio. We are also looking to appoint a Deputy Head: Academics who will oversee the delivery of the academic programme. Our vision is that the two Deputies will work in a synergistic way with a unified focus on the unique opportunities and challenges of educating girls in our time.

The Girls' Preparatory invites applications for the positions available from 1 January / 1 May 2020 (negotiable).

Job Requirements:

  • A suitable professional qualification and appropriate educational experience, particularly in girls' education;
  • A sound and progressive understanding of the South African curriculum and international trends in education and be willing to teach;
  • The ability to foster and sustain positive relationships with all stakeholders; within the Girls' Preparatory, across the College and in the broader education community;
  • Previous experience in a leadership position within an ISASA school would be advantageous;
  • A high level of organisational, managerial, administrative and communication skills;
  • An understanding of budget management and financial planning;
  • A willingness to work within the values, Methodist ethos and mission of the College as well as to participate in the broader life of the school.
  • Proof of registration with SACE;
  • Any staff member working within a school is required to have a sexual offender's clearance certificate;
