HEAD OF LIFE ORIENTATION

Applicants should: 

  • have proven experience of teaching Life Orientation at Grade 12 level
  • have demonstrated a talent and passion for teaching Life Orientation to adolescent pupils
  • have a natural ease in communicating and connecting with adolescents
  • be innovative in presenting the subject content in a relevant and dynamic way
  • have an appropriate teaching qualification
  • be competent in, and excited about, the use of digital pedagogy
  • be familiar with the requirements of the National Senior Certificate
  • have a track record of effective leadership
  • ideally, contribute to the racial diversity of the College’s staff
  • be registered with SACE

TEACHER INTERNSHIP VACANCIES
To commence: January 2022

The Diocesan School for Girls, situated in Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown) in the Eastern Cape, offers young women[1] with a passion for teaching and learning, who see themselves working towards a permanent career in education, the opportunity to join our successful intern programme.

Our ideal candidates are women under the age of 25 who:

  • share the values and vision of DSG around transformation, diversity and belonging.
  • are currently working towards a career in teaching (BEd Intermediate Phase) OR who plan to register for a PGCE through distance learning in 2021 and are interested in gaining professional experience in the workplace
  • offer co-curricular skills in sports or cultural activities
  • support the Christian values and ethos of the school

Full involvement in all aspects of school life is expected, including:

  • observing, assisting and completing teaching practice in the classroom
  • contributing to pastoral care of our girls through duties in a boarding house, tutoring and bus duties
  • Sports coaching or management of a sports team (where appropriate)
  • Assisting with clubs and cultural activities
  • Actively supporting DSG’s community engagement programme

  • A recognised degree and/or a 4-year professional teaching qualification

  • Suitable prior experience in mentoring and scaffolding the One Research Task (ORT)

  • Knowledge in creating varied and innovative learning programmes and assessments
  • A thorough understanding of issues facing emerging adults in South Africa and globally

  • Establish a teaching environment that is nurturing and promotes learning

MARGARET STYLE HOSTEL - FEMALE LIVE-IN STUDENT CHARGE MISTRESS
To commence in January 2022

A vacancy exists for a female live-in student charge mistress in our hostel. This position is ideally suited for a female student studying long-distance, a student wanting to do a gap year or has limited classes with a passion for young children and a big heart.

Applicant MUST be 21 or older, hold a valid Driver’s licence to apply for Public Driving Permit (PDP) which is a requirement.

The job entails the following: 

  • 1 Full day duty every week: 5h45 to 21h00
  • Every 3rd week additional full day duty
  • 1 Full weekend duty every 3 weeks: Friday 5h45 to Monday 5h45
  • 1 Standby duty every 3 weeks: Friday 5h45 to Saturday 13h00 but is immediately available should duty student have a crisis.
  • Must stay in hostel from Sunday to Friday morning as breakfast attendance is compulsory.

We offer:

  • 1 Room with 2 beds and a desk, designated shower and toilet facility, laundry room with washing machine and tumble drier, 3 meals a day and a small salary.
