PHYSICAL SCIENCE AND LIFE SCIENCE LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
to commence duties on 1 August 2022

We are seeking a skilled laboratory technician to join our growing team. In this position, you will set up samples and experiments to enhance the transfer of education to pupils at the school. Experience in data collection and interpretation as well as a keen attention to details and a strong work ethic is a must.

The successful applicant will be a suitably qualified laboratory technician with the following requirements:

  • Some years of experience in a laboratory environment
  • Maths and computer skills
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques, understanding of proper chemical handling, use, storage and disposal

The following skills are essential:

  • Test and set up lab equipment
  • Use lab machinery/equipment and computer programs to conduct tests and set up experiments
  • Report any health and safety issues
  • Maintain glassware by picking-up, cleaning, washing, and sterilizing
  • Order, receive, and inventory new glassware as needed
  • Ensure successful experiments by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs
  • Document information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books
  • Resolve problems as they arise
  • Attend department meetings

Job Summary:
St Andrew’s Preparatory, a leading independent school, seeks to employ a confident, efficient, and highly organised person into the role of Personal Assistant to the Headmaster and Admissions Coordinator. This person will be responsible for managing the administrative office and overseeing the entire admissions process.

High Level Responsibilities and Duties:

PA to the Headmaster:

  • Managing the diary of the Headmaster and ensuring that his calendar is kept up to date;
  • Scheduling meetings;
  • Minute taking during Senior Management Meetings and Disciplinary Hearings;
  • Assist with the compiling and submission of all reports required by the headmaster’s office;
  • Being available to the staff, parents, and students to deal with queries and make appointments;
  • Liaising and dealing with the administrative submissions to the DBE, ISASA, and the IEB;
  • Assist the Senior Management Team with arranging Parents evenings;
  • Managing the current student database.

Admissions Coordinator:

  • Administer the complete admissions process for the whole school from initial enquiries to the first day of school, including the completion of the registration process and all other associated paperwork.
  • Keep an accurate and up to date Admissions calendar and diary;
  • Submit and compile Admissions reports;
  • Assist the Marketing, Events and Communications coordinator with converting interest into enrolment, the organising of events, activations, open days, and communication as and when required.

Requirements:

  • 7 years’ experience in same or similar position reporting to a senior management position;
  • an excellent command of English (both verbal and written communication);
  • advance diary management and minute taking skills;
  • good interpersonal skills and ability to interact at an executive level;
  • advanced computer literacy skills in the full MS Office and Google Suite;
  • strong administrational skills;
  • excellent communication, presentation, and organisational skills;
  • the ability to always work independently, to prioritize work and a willingness to contribute to a dynamic team;
  • ability to take charge in demanding situations, and the ability to meet multiple deadlines;
  • exceptional planning and organising skills, with meticulous attention to detail;
