Facilities and Maintenance Manager

We are looking for a knowledgeable and competent manager to oversee the operations and upkeep of the school. You will be required to manage budgets, train, and supervise staff, and oversee the daily operations of the school. You will be required to efficiently manage multiple projects


  • Meeting with the Deputy Principal and Principal to discuss general requirements.
  • Managing budgets.
  • Managing the daily operations of the estate including staff schedules and upkeep.
  • Supervising all ground staff and providing training, daily feedback, and performance reviews.
  • Managing all maintenance, repairs, and renovations to buildings and grounds (general maintenance, plumbing and electrical functions).
  • Liaising with companies that hire the facilities to ensure that all functions run smoothly.
  • Managing all administrative tasks.


  • Strong background in property management, business administration, or similar.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in construction and project management, or similar.
  • Experience in property management including the coordination of maintenance and renovations.
  • Sound knowledge of groundskeeping management and operations.
  • Great leadership and project management abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Exceptional time management and multitasking abilities.
  • The availability to be on call at all times, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Wynberg Boys Junior School has an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified, service driven candidate in the position of an Estate Manager.

The successful incumbent will be responsible for managing the school’s maintenance portfolio of the school grounds and buildings and for ensuring a safe and secure environment.


Minimum requirements


  • Minimum of 10 years as an Estate Manager or similar facilities management role
  • Estate or facilities management within a school or learning institute environment would be advantageous.
  • Oversight of contractors in relation to the delivery and management of construction projects

Knowledge and skills: 

  • Strong organisational and problem solving skills with excellent attention to detail 
  • Must be able to multitask, prioritise, and work well under pressure to meet established deadlines
  • Solid track record of negotiating skills with excellent interpersonal and communication skills as the role will require a lot of interaction with service providers and external clients
  • Leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to motivate teams
  • Knowledge and experience in applying health, safety and security protocols in a large, populous environment
  • Must display at least an intermediate level of financial acumen with an understanding of procurement
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Ability to anticipate and identify possible obstacles and implement preventative plans
  • Must be proactive, solutions orientated and performance driven

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • General oversight of facilities and amenities, including buildings, grounds and fields while managing all associated health services and safety and security protocols
  • Assessing, appointing and managing contractors (repair and maintenance) and monitoring that they perform within their scope and service level agreements.
  • Leading and motivating the Estate Management team and working closely with the Estate Foremen to deliver efficient and effective maintenance and cleaning functions 
  • Maintaining any inventory and asset registers while ensuring that all inventory and assets are fit for purpose and available for scheduled maintenance projects. 
  • Liaise with the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) maintenance directorate on any general maintenance or special projects.
  • Lead measures and initiatives which will positively contribute to the enhanced safety and security of the school.

Handyman – Fleurhof Campus

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Position Purpose: The Handyman will be responsible for the upkeep and repair duties including maintaining and identifying the need for repairs to of the entire school.

To be an effective handyman, you will be skilled and hard-working, with outstanding problem-solving abilities. Skillful hands, good physical stamina, and strong technical knowledge are important parts of the successful candidates’ talents.


  • Perform basic tasks including painting and filling crevices, tidying up of the facility after repair works and managing maintenance repairs.
  • Perform repairs on company machinery, equipment or appliances.
  • Detect and report the need for major maintenance repairs.
  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Repair plumbing, electrical and safety systems.
  • Conduct performance assessments of company appliances, such as refrigerators, microwaves, stoves, ovens and coffee makers.
  • Provide clients with support and guidance on maintaining their equipment.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Good communication skills.
  • At least 2 years’ experience as a Handyman, this would include the replacement, repairs of all building components where applicable.
  • Electrical fault finding and repair skill up to the DB Box.
  • Plumbing works up to the mainline.
  • Painting skills.
