CHAPLAIN INTERNSHIP

The Diocesan School for Girls, situated in Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown) in the Eastern Cape, offers a young woman with a calling and a passion for school chaplaincy, the opportunity to join our successful intern programme.

We are looking for a creative team player, an energy creator with a ‘can-do’ attitude who loves what they do, because they know it will make a difference in the lives of the people they serve.

To commence: January 2022

Our ideal candidate is a woman aged between 25 and 35 years who:

  • is an ordained Anglican priest and embraces the ethos and ideals of an Anglican church school. 
  • is a person of prayer and a pastor at heart. 
  • embraces and presents a biblically based understanding of the Christian faith.
  • has a maturity of faith to deal with the complex issues of school.
  • is willing to participate and engage fully in the life of the school.
  • enjoys, and is good at, working with, and relating to children of all ages.
  • share the values and vision of DSG around transformation, diversity and belonging.
  • willing to further their studies at the College of Transfiguration.
  • willing and committed to pursue the internship for one year.

The school offers: 

  • mentorship and guidance from DSG Chaplain and The College of Transfiguration. 
  • sufficient time for studies.
  • college fees and books.
  • board and lodging, as well as a small stipend.

TEACHER INTERNSHIP VACANCIES
To commence: January 2022

The Diocesan School for Girls, situated in Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown) in the Eastern Cape, offers young women[1] with a passion for teaching and learning, who see themselves working towards a permanent career in education, the opportunity to join our successful intern programme.

Our ideal candidates are women under the age of 25 who:

  • share the values and vision of DSG around transformation, diversity and belonging.
  • are currently working towards a career in teaching (BEd Intermediate Phase) OR who plan to register for a PGCE through distance learning in 2021 and are interested in gaining professional experience in the workplace
  • offer co-curricular skills in sports or cultural activities
  • support the Christian values and ethos of the school

Full involvement in all aspects of school life is expected, including:

  • observing, assisting and completing teaching practice in the classroom
  • contributing to pastoral care of our girls through duties in a boarding house, tutoring and bus duties
  • Sports coaching or management of a sports team (where appropriate)
  • Assisting with clubs and cultural activities
  • Actively supporting DSG’s community engagement programme

The school offers:

GEOGRAPHY TEACHER

The successful candidate will:

  • be a committed, dynamic, innovative and motivated educator.
  • have experience teaching Grades 8-12 Geography, particularly in the IEB context.
  • be SACE registered with an appropriate university degree and professional qualification.
  • have excellent interpersonal skills with colleagues, pupils and parents.
  • have an understanding of and a willingness to grow the unique teaching partnership between DSG and St Andrew’s College.
  • be willing to participate fully in the life of the school and in extra-curricular activities.
  • demonstrate a willingness to support the Christian ethos of the school, along with the core values of the school.
