The Board of Governors invites applications for the following post in the College.

Position: Head of Boarding

Job Purpose: The establishment and maintenance of a safe, happy and positive boarding house atmosphere; promoting the safety and welfare of all residents; supervision of boarding staff, pupil discipline and stimulating the development of educational, social and personal growth programs.


  • Possess a Bachelor's Degree, with at least 5 years' experience as a Head of Boarding or in a similar position 
  • Academic teaching experience would be advantageous
  • Ensuring the boarders day to day needs are taken care of whilst ensuring that all boarding rules and procedures are adhered to
  • Creation of an academic environment conducive to academic productivity and reasonable life
  • Hosting regular boarding meetings with boarding staff, boarding leaders and boarding pupils to discuss community living concerns
  • Supervision of duty staff, their daily responsibilities and creation of duty staff roster
  • Budget oversight and responsible for future boarding capital projects
  • Ensuring that daily routines and duties are carried out by duty staff
  • Ensuring the grade tutorship between the masters and pupils is conducted and reported on regularly
  • Compilation and maintenance of an accurate roll of the boarders
  • Providing fair, consistent and compassionate pastoral care for the boarders
  • Conduct disciplinary enquiries and/or hearings as required in the event of a boarding rule transgression
  • Creation and oversight of themes and educational, grade appropriate workshops for the year
  • Responsible to the grade 8 boarding orientation program
  • Liaison with the catering/cleaning manager to ensure that suitable standards are maintained
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols including regular maintenance checks
  • Must be SACE Registered
  • Be willing to participate in the Catholic Ethos of the School

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
  • Strong emotional intelligence
  • A sound work ethic and ability to use initiative
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)

Paul Roos Gymnasium requires the full-time services of a Head of Rugby to lead the school's rugby programme. The successful candidate must have the necessary qualifications, experience, aswell as proven leadership-, coaching- and administrative skills.


  • To establish standards and norms for Paul Roos Gymnasium rugby and a coaching structure that will enable boys with potential, to reach their goal of playing professional rugby and to allow each boy at Paul Roos Gymnasium to improve his skills to the best of his ability.
  • To provide the vision and strategy for the school’s rugby to develop and be competitive against the best teams in South Africa.
  • To develop coaching frameworks that will allow each coach to perform to the best of his ability and from which each player will benefit.
  • To add value to the provincial structures and to promote Paul Roos Gymnasium through these structures.
  • To devise match and practice schedules to ensure that all players receive opportunities to develop their game.
  • To develop a pre-season programme that focuses on the conditioning of players as well as individual skills.
  • To be able to implement a conditioning programme with the necessary role players.
  • To ensure that all coaches have the necessary qualifications and abilities to coach at PRG.


  • To provide and oversee reports for assembliesand the media that focus on the individual andteam achievements of the previous weeks.
  • To lead and provide one-on-one coaching withthose boys who show ambition and determinationto improve their game.
  • To organise and coordinate rugby festivals with the assistance of the Head of Sport.
  • To appoint coaches and managers for all teamsin collaboration with the Rector and the Head of Sport.
  • To establish a brand of rugby that is unique to Paul Roos Gymnasium that can be effectively developed through all age groups.
  • To create a rugby structure that will attractprimary school players to apply to the school. 
  • To take primary responsibility for all rugby-related administration.
  • To set up and manage the rugby budget.
