GIRLS’ PREPARATORY

Our primary intention is to educate and empower girls, raising them in ways that are responsive to the challenges unique to women. We aim to be the leaders in girls’ education, with the focus on nurturing individual skills and dispositions, equipping girls to engage confidently and with a sense of purpose. Our girls work within a values-based framework in order to make decisions with good intent. The South African context is diverse and dynamic. Mathematics Coordinator

The Girls’ Preparatory invites suitably qualified and experienced educators to apply for the above-mentioned position. The Mathematics Coordinator is required to work from 1 May 2020 (negotiable) at the Girls’ Preparatory as part of a dynamic and highly responsive existing team who work with students across the Foundation, Intermediate and Senior Phases.

The requirements for this position are: 

  • Minimum qualification is a B. Ed Degree in Mathematics or equivalent 
  • Fundamentally future-oriented approach to teaching and learning
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in teaching Mathematics
  • Experience in managing and mentoring a diverse mathematics department would be an advantage
  • Ability to take initiative and to act decisively
  • Sound knowledge of Grade 3 – 7 Mathematics with a passion for the subject. High School experience would also be beneficial
  • Willingness to collaborate with other Heads of Departments on Campus to further curriculum development and a love of mathematics
  • Willingness to research and share contemporary trends in latest and best practice for all students needing diverse support interventions and/or extension opportunities
  • Sound and progressive understanding of the South African curriculum and international trends in education
  • Commitment to on-going personal and professional development 
  • The ability to differentiate and moderate the curriculum to complement our innovative approach to education
  • Experience in and/or an understanding of Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) would be an advantage
  • Experience in developing learning and teaching material and assessment practices per IEB requirements and the needs of the students
  • Proficiency and experience in integrating iPad based activities into learning would be an advantage
  • Well-developed EQ, mindfulness and emotional agility
  • Excellent analytical, communication, intrapersonal and administrative skills
  • Proof of registration with SACE and sexual offender’s clearance certificate
  • Awareness of the character of the school and willingness to commit to work within the Christian ethos, co-curricular activities and pastoral approach of the College
