Uplands is a forward-thinking, innovative co-educational independent school located on a 110-hectare Estate in White River, Mpumalanga, that is committed to providing quality education to day and boarding scholars from Grade 0000 to 12.

Head of House (College)
Commencement date: 01 January 2022

Uplands College wishes to appoint a passionate and dynamic Head of House to join our management team. We are seeking an individual who is motivated, hardworking, and sociable. You will be responsible for the oversight of pastoral care of the day scholars and boarders in your House. You will also work as part of a dynamic team to help develop a boarding residence that both pupils and staff are proud to be a part of. You must focus on the development of pastoral practices and provide our staff with a range of professional development opportunities.

The successful applicant will: 

  • Have a suitable professional qualification and be SACE registered. 
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience (IEB experience would be an advantage). 
  • Have a good knowledge of, and experience in, pastoral care and discipline. 
  • Enhance individual and collective well being within the House and broader Uplands community.
  • Be genuinely passionate to make a difference in pupils’ lives.
  • Be willing to work as part of a team and assist with general duties as and when required.
  • Be able to work collaboratively with others to achieve various goals and objectives.
  • Be responsible for arranging weekend activities for boarders.
  • Have a proven record of commitment and professionalism towards pastoral care and education.
  • Be willing to participate fully in the extra-curricular programme and all school activities

The ability to teach Information Technology or Afrikaans FAL would be advantageous.

Head of Uplands College

An exciting opportunity exists to lead the College. This is a highly people-focused role and requires a positive, energetic individual with strong academic, collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills. As a member of the Senior Executive Team, the College Head reports to the Executive Head.

The successful applicant will hold the following key responsibilities:

  1. Strategy – Provide strategic leadership in accordance with the Uplands 2028 strategic plan.
  2. People – Provide servant leadership of academic and support staff, with an emphasis on professional development activities and staff engagement.
  3. Teaching and Learning – Provide instructional leadership with the highest standards.
  4. Organisational - Leadership of all College activities, including boarding, pastoral, extracurricular and innovation.
  5. Team – Be an empathetic team player, with a holistic view of Uplands.
  6. Individual – Be self-motivated, self-disciplined, with a drive to succeed.

The successful candidate will possess a relevant degree and teaching qualification; with at least ten years’ experience and a minimum of two years at Senior Management level.
